Pain Principle: Waiting for the flies
25/05/10 || InquisitorGeneralis
It is an established fact that good metal grows deep within the swampy, murky soil of the Tampa, Florida region here in America. Death, Obituary, Morbid Angel, and Cannibal Corpse are pillars of all that can be considered death metal. Other bands like Deicide and Hate Eternal are second-teamers but still forces to be reckoned with. Hell, even Napalm Death came to the steamy south to record their death-influenced masterpiece “Harmony Corruption”.
So why, WHY THE FUCK do bands as retarded as Pain Principle come from SoFo too huh?!! Eric “forehead” Rutan even produced this shit and Satan knows that dude is metal. Actually, he’s too fucken metal which means I can not get into the unrelenting blastfest known as Hate Eternal. This is generic, by-the-book metal with elements of hardcore and powercrappola tossed in just to make my job easier. “Waiting for the Flies” is about the same as waiting for your girlfriend to be ready for sex… it’s painful and often doesn’t deliver. Or, better yet it’s like waiting for that big dump to come out: you’re pushing, it’s hurting, and shit is going nowhere.
I just don’t have time for this kind of shit: nothing sounds original or has any redeeming value. If you have been a fan of metal since the early 2000s you have heard this shit before trust me. But wait! Haven’t I expressed love for consistent bands like Bolt Thrower and Amon Amarth? Bands that have stuck to the same sound and style album after album? Yes jizz-lobber, I have. But those bands have hung thier collective hats, horned-helms, and helmets on a style that they themselves designed. You hear “Runes to my memory” and you immediately know that’s fucken Amon Amarth. You hear “No guts, no glory” and you know Bolts are being fucken thrown around here. If you hear “Body farm”, you will probably turn it off. But if you have enough time to think about it you will mistake this for As I Lay Dying, or Atreyu, or God-Forbid, or newer In Flames… or any other mallcore band out there.
The production is good (thanks Captain Bigskull) but the tunes are just not there. Fuck, I even enjoy some metalcore garbage from time to time. After giving it a shot I have zero desire or reason to listen to “Waiting for the flies” ever again. A competent band for sure but absolutely nothing remarkable, special, or memorable. I don’t recommend this to anyone. It’s a big swing and a miss for Penis Principle’s third album “Waiting for the flies”. I fucken hate baseball but on one point I do agree with America’s craptime: three strikes and your ass is out. I’m done, Pain Principle sucks nuts. Go listen to Death and remember why Florida was the g-spot for premium fresh-squeezed metal awesomeness way back when.
